Center for Faculty Excellence

Faculty Professional Development

Professional Development Overview

The Center for Faculty Excellence creates professional development opportunities in multiple modalities to support high quality teaching and learning. These include instructor facilitated courses such as the New Faculty Orientation, University Research Reviewer, and Dissertation and Doctoral Study Mentoring courses.

The Center hosts synchronous webinars and each offering is archived for distribution. In MyLearn, faculty can complete self-paced tutorials or read manuscripts. In addition, the Center provides longer professional development seminars in the form of Juntos.

Our semi-annual National Faculty Meetings coincide with Walden commencement ceremonies (Summer and Winter). These events are hosted by the Center and feature face-to-face academic development sessions among seven tracks including:

  • Diversity and inclusion,
  • Mentoring doctoral students,
  • Best practices in instructional delivery,
  • Supporting international students,
  • Faculty resources and support,
  • Supporting adult learners, and
  • Supporting undergraduate students.

We strive to align professional development opportunities with the university’s strategic initiatives and the needs of the faculty.
