Office 365

Office 2016

Office 365 comes with the full version of Office 2016 which you can download to your computer, if you choose.  There is no charge to you for Office 2016; it is provided by Walden University.

What is the difference between Office 365 and Office 2016 (or Office 2010)?

Office 365 is:

  • an online (cloud-based) suite of apps (applications), similar to Google’s apps, accessed through a browser.
  • is available anywhere you have an internet connection.
  • includes Outlook (Mail), calendar, contacts (People), and basic versions of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint as well as other apps.

Office 2010/2016 is:

  • installed on your computer.
  • is only available on that one computer.
  • Includes full versions of Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.

Installing Office 2016

We highly recommend you uninstall any previous versions of Office from your computer before you install Office 2016.  While Microsoft has resolved known issues when upgrading Office 2013, starting from a clean install is always best.

Be sure to back up your documents before removing or upgrading your current version of Office.

If your Office is provided by another institution, check with their IT department before you uninstall or upgrade to Office 2016.

  1. Backup your documents and remove the current version of Office on your computer.
  2. Click the "Install Office 2016" button in Office 365.

  1. Follow the instructions from Office 365.
